Finally, someone somewhere loves Federico Fazio. The Argentine defender was sent to Sevilla on loan last season, because he was surplus to requirements.

It was a bold return, given that Sevilla had held Fazio aloft as a traitor when he left the club for Spurs. The idea was a loan would then turn into a permanent transfer, but, perhaps unsurprisingly, it all went pear shaped and Fazio didn’t impress anybody.

Well, there’s another club in Spain who may think very differently. After reporting Espanyol interest in Fazio, Spanish newspaper Super Deporte believe they’ve got some kind of confirmation.

Espanyol’s sporting director Angel Gomez was asked about the club’s reported interest in Fazio, Piatti and Victor Camarasa. Gomez replied: “If we could incorporate, they would be very good signings, but there is nothing official.”

It would be a decent move for Fazio, and one he should probably be pushing for. Tottenham may well do their own pushing too.
