On Tuesday, claims from the English press stated Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain is set to leave at the end of this season.
The Premier League winners have started searching for his successor. In fact, Manchester City have already made an approach for Girona sporting director Quique Cárcel.
That’s at least what Rac1 are reporting, and they took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share the latest.
The Spaniard received an offer from the Citizens to become Begiristain’s successor at the English club. It’s claimed the 50-year-old ‘says no’ to Manchester City.
Cárcel has been the La Liga side’s sporting director since 2014 and his deal there runs until 2027. Manchester City are owned by the City Football Group, who also have a stake at the Spanish club.
Despite the connection between the two clubs, Manchester City have apparently been unsuccessful in their efforts to take Cárcel. Rac1 state he has ‘turned down’ their proposal in order to continue at Girona, who qualified for the Champions League this season.
Pep Guardiola has less than a year left on his deal. It’s not yet clear whether he’ll sign a new deal at Manchester City.
