With Premier League cash in their pocket and no desire to return to the Championship, Aston Villa have not hesitated in spending so far this summer.

Dean Smith has quickly and efficiently added to his squad and not hesitated to spend big money to do so.

Seven new faces have already arrived at Villa Park, with over £20m spent on the likes of Wesley and Tyrone Mings.

One player who will not be joining them, however, is Alfonso Pedraza. According to Estadio Deportivo, the left midfielder, who can also play left-back, turned down a move to the Premier League this summer.

Instead, the Villarreal man will be heading to Real Betis, who ‘fulfilled his aspirations’ and have secured him on loan for next season.

Why Pedraza turned down Villa is not mentioned, although there’s every chance Leeds United had something to do with it.

The 23-year-old spent six months at Elland Road back in 2016/17 after joining them in the January transfer window that year and while that experience wasn’t a terrible one, perhaps it was enough to convince him staying in Spain was the better choice.
