From Spain: Latest on Unai Emery to Aston Villa, ‘next few hours’ could see deal closed

On Monday morning, we covered the latest from Portugal on Aston Villa and Ruben Amorim.

Claims of the Sporting manager’s clause being reduced to €10m, from €30m, were dismissed and it was insisted Amorim was expecting to stay where he is until the end of the season.

There hasn’t been a great deal of worry in the Portuguese media about the Sporting manager departing Lisbon, and there probably would be if something serious was going on.

Now there’s claims from Spain regarding Unai Emery moving to the Premier League club.

AS say Villarreal are aware of Aston Villa’s interest and are waiting for their manager to tell them what he intends to do. The Spanish newspaper believe Emery is ‘seriously considering’ taking the job.

Over at Marca, the slant may be even more optimistic.

Aston Villa are said to be willing to pay the manager’s €6m escape clause. Marca say sources have confirmed to them the situation is ‘very hot’ and the chances it will be close in the ‘next few hours or days’ are ‘very high’.
