During the summer, we covered the battle between Sevilla and West Ham United for the signing of the Eibar midfielder Joan Jordán.

After a couple of months of rumours, the player ended up staying at La Liga, moving to the Nervión side on a €14m deal.

After making the transfer, he’s never minded talking about the interest from other clubs, always highlighting that ‘more money’ had been offered to him at the time.

Back in June, Jordán said Sevilla was the only club in his mind, and we even wrote a story saying the quotes sounded like West Ham were never an option for him.

Now the player has been interviewed by Estádio Desportivo, and this time, he claims he was actually very close on joining a Premier League club.

“When Sevilla called me, I knew that I wanted to come, I had almost done it with a team from the Premier League that made a lot more money, but my family, my wife and my parents were betting on this, especially my father.”

“I didn’t care about the rest of the teams and what they offered me, I wanted to come to Sevilla. I want to grow at all levels and here I am.”

Although Jordán doesn’t name the club, Estádio Deportivo makes sure to say it was West Ham who almost signed the 25-year-old.
