Leeds United have not made contact with manager Diego Martinez to replace Marcelo Bielsa at the end of the season.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say ‘sources inside’ Elland Road insist to them that there has been ‘no contact’ between the Spanish boss and Leeds as yet.
Questions about Bielsa’s future have begun to appear in recent weeks, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
That in itself is not new information as the Argentine boss isn’t a fan of long contracts.
He’s signed a new extension every year, but there are questions about whether that will happen this year, given Leeds struggles this season.
Several names have been put forwards as potential replacements for Bielsa but none more so than Martinez, who has been linked for months.
He’s out of work at this moment in time, and back in November, there were several reports about Leeds being in contact.
It was claimed that the manager was ‘endorsed’ by Whites chief Victor Orta, while it was later claimed that the two had held initial contacts about a move to Elland Road.
Then in January, Martinez’s future was again being covered in Spain, with it stated that ‘it sounds like Leeds’ will be his next destination.
It seems they were a little wide of the mark, though, with Estadio reporting that the there has been ‘no contact’ between Martinez and those in charge at Elland Road.
They say that while they were one of the first clubs to show an interest in him because of Orta, their attention is now directed elsewhere, pointing to reports in England linking them to the likes of Jesse Marsch and Ernesto Valverde.
According to their information, everyone at Leeds is focused on the clash with Manchester United and avoiding relegation, with just six points separating them from the drop at present.
There is no focus on changing manager at this moment in time, and even if there was, Martinez hasn’t been contacted.
