When it comes to a Manchester City transfer battle, the Catalan media feel they have a couple of men in the fight.
Txiki Begiristain and Ferran Soriano used to work together at Barcelona, and, now in similar roles at Manchester City, they’re charged with getting the playing squad and wider club just as Pep Guardiola wants it.
So, explain Sport, it’s their job to get Kyle Walker from Tottenham.
However, things aren’t quite as easy at Manchester City as they often were at Barcelona. There’s more competition, and it’s not so easy to swipe players away from most of the Premier League’s clubs.
Especially Tottenham. Daniel Levy has a fearsome reputation in Spain, something he’s currently adding to by being overly awkward with Espanyol over Pau Lopez, and Sport accept it’s not easy for Manchester City.
Added to all of that, the Catalan newspaper claim Mauricio Pochettino is ‘forcing’ Levy to hold firm over Walker, and encouraging the club to be extra tough on this one.
If that was all correct then Manchester City would probably have no chance. But, it’s hard to believe Pochettino is getting so involved, knowing it would be unwise to have an unhappy player around the place.
As for Levy, Txiki and Soriano… Manchester City will only get their man when they pay enough so it looks like a clear win for Tottenham.
