Raheem Sterling is ‘confident’ of returning from injury in time for Manchester City’s clash with Real Madrid in the Champions League.
That’s according to AS, who believe the forward is set to return early from a thigh injury after ‘inside’ information from the club revealed as much.
Sterling picked up a hamstring injury in Manchester City’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham at the beginning of this month.
Pep Guardiola later confirmed that he was set to miss ‘weeks’ worth of action, with it looking unlikely he would be ready for the meeting with Real Madrid.
However, reports in England have suggested that Sterling is aiming to be available for the first leg of that last 16 clash at the Bernabeu on February 26th and AS back that up today.
According to their information, tests conducted by Manchester City on Sterling’s injury have shown it to be a ‘minimal muscle tear’.
While that news is still ‘disturbing’, it is not as bad as first feared, and as such, Sterling believes he will be available to Guardiola for that first-leg clash in Spain in two weeks.
Manchester City ‘has the same confidence’ about that happening although they have ‘more reservations’ than the player at this moment in time.
AS however, point out that the fact Sterling was given permission to go on holiday during the Premier League’s winter break, coupled with the information they’ve received from ‘inside’ the club, demonstrates it is likely he will be ready for that meeting with Real Madrid.
