Although they occasionally have a relapse, the Spanish press appear to be moving away from the idea of Hector Bellerin being the most likely right back recruit for Barcelona.
Unless he refuses to sign a new contract, and indicates he’d like to return to Barcelona from Arsenal, just like Cesc Fabregas, then Barcelona will simply have to look elsewhere.
The new man in the spotlight is Valencia’s Joao Cancelo. The 22 year old has recently made his debut for Portugal, he can play at right back or as a right winger. Valencia brought the player in from Benfica in the 2015 summer transfer window.
Spanish newspaper Marca say that Barcelona would have Mancunian competition for the player. Jose Mourinho is named, and it’s stated Manchester United and Manchester City would be rivals to sign Cancelo.
The idea of Mourinho snatching a player from Barcelona’s clutches, and signing him for Manchester United, is probably quite welcome for Marca, so we may be hearing more of this one in the coming weeks and months.
Marca believe Cancelo would cost around €30m, although they state that figure may vary.
