The Sergio Ramos to Manchester United claims have made their way to Spain, specifically to Mundo Deportivo. The Catalan newspaper love winding up Real Madrid, and love pointing out Jose Mourinho isn’t having a wonderful start at Manchester United… so it’s a perfect mix for them.
The original claims came from Italy’s Calciomercato, and we pointed out it seemed a little unreliable. Calciomercato said Manchester United were willing to offer Real Madrid £42m for the 30 year old.
Mundo Deportivo have of course added their own slant, saying ‘Mourinho believes the Andalusian is the best central defender in the world’.
It’s of course made its way to English newspapers too, but no matter how far the claim spreads, it must be remembered it all comes back to Calciomercato’s transfer roulette article.
Sergio Ramos is captain of Real Madrid and very happy indeed. He’s got Champions League football pretty much guaranteed every season, and in May proudly lifted up the trophy wearing the armband, and a bandana with his personal Andalusia/Espana SR4 branding.
Last year the defender bagged himself a huge new Real Madrid contract, largely thanks to Manchester United.
He’s very much ‘the man’ for Madrid in defence, and has a great status at the club and in Spanish football generally. During the Manchester United saga, his mother made it clear he wouldn’t be leaving Spain, and of course he didn’t.
This story needs to accept its timely death, no matter how much it tickles the Spanish media.
