Southampton’s hunt for Mauricio Pellegrino has been reported repeatedly both in Spain and England over the past few days, and an outcome could be imminent.
They claim the club have gone in strong for the 45-year-old and he’s about to sign a long-term contract at the Premier League side.
Marca’s story only has two short paragraphs, and it feels like they wanted to be first with the Southampton claim, and the Spanish newspaper sounds pretty confident.
Pellegrino spent last season at Alavés, where he finished ninth in the Spanish League. Despite the club’s will to keep him, the manager decided to look for a new challenge.
The former defender started his managerial career at Valencia, and then returned to his home country Argentina to take charge of Estudiantes and Independiente. He has previously picked up some Premier League experience by playing and being a coach at Liverpool.
Marca say Southampton will announce Pellegrino’s arrival within ‘the coming hours’.
