We will not get sucked in. We will not get sucked in. We will not get s… Oh hey there!
So. Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United? Big news, eh?
It certainly is in Spain, where AS, who reported the news the Portuguese star wanted to leave Real Madrid, with his first option being a return to Old Trafford, are now enjoying getting backed up by La Sexta.
Before we go any further, it’s worth explaining they’re a TV channel owned by Atresmedia, well known in the football transfer world for their rather dramatic show “Jugones”, where many big claims have been made, with few actually ever happening.
Either way, we would be remiss if we didn’t bring you the latest from Spain, and that’s José Mourinho giving the ‘green light’ to CR7’s transfer to Manchester United.
According to La Sexta, the Premier League club decided to undergo a ‘viability study’ to see if the deal would make sense to them financially, and the answer was ‘yes’.
The Red Devils allegedly came to the conclusion the whole thing would cost them around €400m, with €200m going straight to Real Madrid, but that the marketing and media impact would actually give them ‘many benefits’.
We can only assume that when José Mourinho was told this fantastic news by Ed Woodward, he immediately gave him the thumbs up, flashed him his cheekiest smile, then immediately ran to his office to figure out a way of fitting Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard, Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford into his starting line-up.
He’s 32, lads. No one is going to spend €400m on a 32-year-old.
Not even Zlatan Ibrahimovic would expect a club to do that for him.
PS: Please forget all about this article when Cristiano Ronaldo does inevitably sign for Manchester United for €450m in the summer of 2018, earning £1m/week post tax and recuperates his number seven shirt from Sanchez.
Thanks.
