As announced by the small La Liga club on Friday, Sergi Samper will be a Granada player for the coming season.
The decision has apparently come after a long period of thinking for the youngster, who knows he’ll be hard pressed to get much game time at Barcelona as a defensive midfielder.
Why did it take so long to make the decision? Because so many clubs were interested in him.
According to Sport on Friday, Arsenal, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain all came forward to express an interest in the versatile youngster, which made him consider his future.
Both Premier League sides have been linked with the youngster at various times over the past year, with Arsenal because of how he plays football and Manchester City, because, well, Pep Guardiola.
In the end, the player opted to only go on loan for one season to Granada, mostly because of Paco Jemez’s style of play at Granada.
Luis Enrique’s wish was for him to go out on loan for two years, but the player was apparently against that, wanting to either go temporarily for a year or leave for good due to the great offers he received from the aforementioned clubs.
Time of play won’t be an issue at Granada, and, who knows, he might even come back with a spot in the squad open for him at Barcelona.
