Antonio Conte has clearly had enough of his situation at Chelsea.
The Italian manager has been publicly questioning the club’s backing for weeks, maybe months, and his brilliant first season in charge of Chelsea seems so long ago.
After an embarrassing defeat to Watford on Monday evening, Conte has edged even closer to the exit, and Sport in Spain believe Luis Enrique will likely be replacing him.
The Catalan newspaper report Enrique is just ‘one step away’ from becoming Chelsea’s manager. It’s claimed Roman Abramovich could sack Conte in ‘the next few hours’ and that Enrique is in pole position to get the job.
Former Barcelona manager Enrique is ‘first on Abramovich’s list’ and the job is described as fitting the conditions the Spanish manager has.
Enrique wants a sports project which matches his ambitions and an attractive city for his family to live in whilst he’s in the job, which could just be a gap year working abroad at Chelsea. An extended holiday in London.
A lot of this seems conjecture, but conjecture that makes sense.
