Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo feel Barcelona are welcoming Manchester City at not the best time. Celtic managed to get a 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the club’s last Champions League match, and so it’s explained that expectations have dropped.
Celtic stood firm against Manchester City and since has followed a period where Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City haven’t looked quite the ‘sweeping all before them’ side they did at the beginning of the season.
Mundo Deportivo point out that whilst Celtic are an ‘historic’ club, their recent European form hasn’t been what it once was, and therefore the result against City pushed Guardiola’s men back a step.
The draw at Celtic Park could be dangerous, with the Spanish newspaper saying that Manchester City would be viewed as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
That all puts Barcelona under greater pressure in the Champions league group, with it now being more widely accepted that Manchester City are a work in progress under Guardiola, and therefore anything but a win is a failure for Barca.
That added to the Guardiola connection means there’s some nerves in Catalonia, because a poor result would be looked upon even more harshly.
