Everton’s hunt for a new striker has been well documented this summer, with a forward thought to be top of their priorities.
The club currently have Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun in the position but are keen to move the latter on this summer.
Calvert-Lewin proved his worth this season but remains a young striker and doesn’t score enough for an ambitious team like the Toffees.
Reinforcement is needed, and Marcel Brands will be on the case. Last month we brought you news from FootMercato that Everton were interested in Lille’s Rafael Leao.
They said the Blues, alongside Valencia, were the first to show an interest in the highly rated 20-year-old.
The Spanish paper reports that they believe Valencia will move for Leao once they’ve completed a move for Maxi Gomez.
Leao is available for €30m and club executives Mateu Alemany and Pablo Longoria know they are unlikely to get a player of his talent for that price again so are keen to push ahead with the move.
In fact, Valencia believe they have ‘the player under control’ and his signing will come at the end of the transfer window, rather than now.
That could provide Everton and Aston Villa with a chance to nip in and secure his signature ahead of the La Liga side.
€30m is a price they could both afford, and Leao fits into their preference of signing young players.
