Everton’s pursuit for Espanyol defender David López is being taken very seriously by the Catalan media today.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Toffees are making great efforts to sign the 28-year-old, and have already submitted an offer for him.

Tiempo de Espanyol, a Cadena Cope show, claimed Everton don’t only have him as a January target. If the club can’t sign him now, they would still work to do it in the next summer window.

The amount offered by the Toffees isn’t reported, but Mundo Deportivo labels it as ‘important’, and it’s no secret that Premier League sides normally have big power to take players from Spanish clubs without much effort.

Lopez has had several comings and goings from Espanyol. The latest one happened when he was sold to Napoli in a €5.3m deal in 2014, then bought back for a similar amount two years later.

He’s seen as one of the leaders of the squad, so the Catalan side will probably try to convince him to stay, meaning Everton may have to wait.
