Jasper Cillessen to Crystal Palace is one of those rumours that once it appears, it starts to make a great deal of sense.
Spanish newspaper AS launch it on Friday and claim that De Boer could sign Cillessen should Steve Mandanda get his much wanted return to Marseille.
De Boer is said to want a goalkeeper he knows well, and Cillessen fits into that category well, having played for the manager at Ajax.
The Dutch goalkeeper cost Barcelona €13m last summer and AS don’t believe he’s impressed since joining. Firmly second choice, the 28 year old may be tempted by the bright lights of the Premier League and being first choice under De Boer again.
World Cup 2018 appearing on the horizon is also going to be a concern for the non playing goalkeeper.
Barcelona would need a replacement and it’s unlikely they’ll let Cillessen go cheaply, and of course much depends on what happens with Mandanda.
AS are a Madrid leaning newspaper so the whole story could be to try and stir things up at Barcelona, but Cillessen to Crystal Palace really doesn’t sound so crazy an idea.
