Diego Costa has reportedly told Chelsea he wants out. According to Friday’s edition of Spanish newspaper AS, both Roman Abramovich and Antonio Conte have heard from the player’s mouth that he’s not looking forward to having another season at Stamford Bridge.
But Chelsea are not willing to let him go so easy, and apart from Michy Batshuayi, they still want another signing for the position before accepting to sell Costa.
The 27-year-old’s desire to return to Atletico Madrid has been reported for months, but this is the first time the Spanish press say the player has talked to the English club about it.
AS claims that Costa won’t push any harder and has no intention of going public to make things worse. He respects Chelsea and will wait for the club to sort the problem.
Despite having their first offer rejected, Atletico Madrid are still confident they could take Costa back, and see the player as their most realistic name on Simeone’s striker wish-list.
As the Brazilian (or Spanish?) has always been in Conte’s plans, he will take part in the pre-season normally until his situation at Chelsea is defined.
