Real Madrid have been warned they will not face an easy time of things when they take on Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic in the Champions League this evening.
The reigning European champions kick off their title defence in Scotland tonight, taking on Celtic the first matchday of the group stages in Group F.
The Spanish giants are expected to leave Celtic Park with all three points given the size of the two clubs and the millions they’ve spent on their squad compared to Celtic’s considerably smaller budget.
However, they will find Ange Postecoglou’s side in fine form, though, with a 4-0 win over Rangers at the weekend continuing their flying start to the season.
Results before that big win had seen them beating Dundee United 9-0 and Kilmarnock 5-0, with the goals currently flowing thanks to the Australian’s attacking style of football.
Repeating that against a giant like Real Madrid seems unlikely but as far as commentator Julio Maldonando ‘Maldini’ is concerned, the Spaniards need to be careful, nonetheless.
“Can Madrid suffer tomorrow? Logically, perhaps, it won’t be a comfortable match for Real Madrid,” he told COPE.
“I don’t expect a comfortable match. But, of course, Madrid are superior. In any case, Celtic are on a good run of results, they have won everything since the beginning of the season.
“They come from beating Rangers 4-0, in the Scottish derby, in a game in which they are far superior. Far, far superior. And with players at a very high level.
“A tough team, a team that I say is in great form. Madrid should not have too many problems to pull off the match.
“But the atmosphere at Celtic Park is spectacular, it’s the first game, and I think Celtic still have a lot to say. In a game that I’m sure is going to be magnificent.”
