Spanish giants Barcelona have made an approach for the signing of Gianluigi Buffon, according to claims on Wednesday afternoon.
Sport says the Catalan side are looking for another experienced goalkeeper for their squad, and made contacts to get to know more about the 43-year-old’s situation.
Buffon is on his way out of Juventus following the end of his contract with the Old Lady this summer, and despite his advanced age, he’s looking for a new challenge.
His dream is to be in Italy’s squad for the World Cup next year, and that means he needs to play as much as possible. That’s why, according to Sport, he turned down Barça’s approach.
Buffon reportedly told the Camp Nou side he doesn’t want to be the second option at a big club. It’s pointed out he’s already been in this situation during his time at Paris Saint Germain and recently at Juventus, so he wants something different this time.
As the goalkeeper looks for a place where he can play regularly, Sport says it’s more likely he’ll stay in Serie A for next season.
