With their Premier League status now secure for next season, Southampton can focus on the summer transfer window.

Their first port of call will be to bolster enough to ensure this season’s poor results don’t repeat themselves, and Calciomercato believe one area they are looking at is on the wings.

More specifically their right wing, seeing as they already have Nathan Redmond for the left hand side, as the club are said to ‘want’ FC Groningen’s Ritsu Doan.

The Japan international is also being followed by surprise Champions League package Ajax and their local rivals PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie, which could give some clues about the future of players in those respective squads, such as Steven Bergwijn, wanted by the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.

It’s a very short article from Calciomercato, and we’re always skeptical of those, but that doesn’t mean Southampton aren’t keeping an eye on the 20-year-old’s progress.

Doan has started 88% of Groningen’s league games this season, totalling four goals and three assists in 28 appearances.
