Back in October and November, we covered reports from Italy that both Chelsea and Manchester City were following the progress of Sassuolo’s Lorenzo Pellegrini.
The 20-year-old is said to have a €10m buy-back clause in his contract from his transfer from Roma back in 2015, yet that hasn’t put anyone off from being interested.
That both those clubs are linked with the same player really isn’t a surprise anymore, as the pairing is a common sighting in the rumour world ever since Mauricio Pochettino left the Saints for White Hart Lane back in 2014.
Of course, both Ronald Koeman and Claude Puel have brought in their own targets, but the Argentinean’s scouting information clearly still remains at St Mary’s.
Either way, both clubs’ attempts to get to the midfielder have been met by ‘a wall’ from Sassuolo’s side, who are keen to retain all of their best players until the end of the season, as this year’s Europa League participants surprisingly find themselves in 16th position in Serie A after 20 games.
Pellegrini, a key player for Sassuolo since the second half of last season, has made 20 appearances so far this campaign, scoring four goals and picking up four assists.
