Having already signed Mislav Orsic and with Carlos Alcaraz on the way, Southampton are trying to give Nathan Jones the tools he wants to work with.
Those two transfers should total more than €20m combined, but the Saints don’t appear intent on stopping there, as they continue to push for more attacking power.
There has been talk of a bid for Terem Moffi, which was rejected as Lorient want around €20m for the Nigerian, and now Southampton are looking at a possible deal for Jérémy Doku.
The Belgian winger has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, having been of interest to many big clubs when he was younger, including Liverpool, but the forward decided to continue to grow in Belgium and then France first.
He’s now at Rennes, and Southampton, according to Foot Mercato, are eyeing up a potential deal for the 20-year-old whom the Ligue 1 side spent €26m on in 2020.
The French website state that the player continues to be followed by ‘many English clubs’, and Southampton ‘tested the waters’ regarding a transfer ‘these past few days’.
However, following the serious injury to Martin Terrier that will see the Frenchman miss the rest of the season, it’s pointed out that Florian Maurice, the club’s technical director, is likely to ‘think twice’ before letting one of their attacking talents go.
Furthermore, considering how much Rennes spent on Doku in the first place, they are likely to want their initial expenditure and more to let him go.
