Portuguese newspaper A Bola has a small snippet in their Wednesday newspaper on Sergio Oliveira. The attacking midfielder is said to ‘on the market’, but so far there’s no obvious destination.
A week ago Southampton were included in a shortlist of clubs who want to sign the player, Claude Puel’s side were joined by AEK, PAOK and Nantes.
In November, Crystal Palace and Stoke City were linked with the player. Mark Hughes obviously remains at Stoke, but Sam Allardyce has taken over at Crystal Palace so if there was interest, perhaps it’s now gone.
The fact stands that if any of Southampton, Crystal Palace or Stoke City were really interested in Oliveira then they could have signed him by now, given he’s something of a Porto outcast. Assuming some level of interest exists, it could be that the clubs only see the player as a back-up option if other January targets escape them.
Oliveira, 24 years of age, has been linked with other English clubs previously, as well as the three mentioned, and maybe it’s more through hope than expectation.
