Southampton forward Charlie Austin has been shortlisted for the Europa League Player of the Week after his heroics against Sparta Prague last night. Austin started the match for Premier League side, and made the most of his opportunity with two goals on the night.

UEFA.com have in the past few hours released the shortlist of six players who are in line for the award. Austin opened the scoring last night for Southampton from the penalty spot despite his dispute with teammate Dusan Tadic with regards to who should take it.

Austin added a second just before half time with Southampton eventually winning 3-0 on the night.  The Southampton star will face competition from the likes of Esteban Cambiasso, Pol Kosok and Karim El Ahmadi.

The victory over the Czech Republic side puts Southampton top of their Europa League group, and Austin is likely to take confidence from his performance. Since signing from Queens Park Rangers in January Austin has struggled to hold down a regular place in the team, and will be hoping for more chances.
