On Friday Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that Wesley Hoedt to Southampton was closing in to be a done deal.

TMW said Southampton’s offer of €17m plus bonuses had been accepted by Lazio, and the Dutchman was ‘about to wave goodbye’ to the Rome club.

Hoedt himself was set for a big contract at Southampton, in comparison to the one at Lazio, and would make the move to the Premier League.

For such big claims it’s going somewhat under the radar, even though Gazzetta dello Sport covered the move in their Saturday edition.

The famous old Italian newspaper claim Hoedt to Southampton is ‘virtually completed’, and the deal would be worth €15m plus a further €2m in bonuses to Lazio.

Gazzetta dello Sport say Hoedt gave his goodbye wishes to teammates after Lazio training on Friday, and there’s certainly confidence in Italy that this one is happening.

Wesley Hoedt is a 23 year old central defender, and the left footer’s Lazio contract runs until 2019.
