Back in late September, we relayed news from Algeria that Southampton were on the verge of signing Chérif Oudjani to help with their recruiting over in France.

The news was confirmed a little bit later, after the Saints ‘really appreciated’ his choices and were ‘counting enormously’ on his desire to recruit young talent in the future.

Well, it didn’t last long.

According to both France Football and Ouest-France, Oudjani has already left the club, this time to return to France where he was given a role in the recruiting cell at FC Nantes, Claudio Ranieri’s former team.

Wanting to revamp the club’s scouting network, the French club turned to the former Lille and RC Lens man, who is said to have signed his deal last week.

One of the reasons behind this move is that he already knows the club’s manager, Vahid Halilhodzic, from their time at Beauvais together.

Whether this has anything to do with the change of manager at St Mary’s isn’t revealed.
