Mario Lemina signed for Southampton in August 2017, from Juventus, having failed to find a place at the Turin club.
The midfielder wasn’t able to shine as much as he wanted with the Saints, and ended up leaving the club on a loan basis for the past two seasons.
First, the 27-year-old went to Galatasaray, and then spent last season with Fulham as the Cottagers saw themselves relegated from the Premier League.
Lemina has now made his way back to Ligue 1 and French football, with Nice confirming his arrival on Saturday. They didn’t confirm what they’d be paying for the deal, and L’Equipe reveal that in their Sunday edition.
According to the French newspaper, Southampton will receive €4.5m as a guaranteed transfer fee, and there’s also a further €2m available in bonus payments.
Lemina will hope he can kick on with Nice’s ambitious project and get to the level he feels his talent deserves to be at. However, he’ll have to show more than he did at Southampton.
