Hamburg’s preseason training started earlier than many this summer, with the big German club relegated to the second division for the first time in their history.
Whilst the intention, and expectation, is to return to the Bundesliga at the first time of asking, there’s going to be sales needed. HSV were in financial difficulties before the relegation and dropping down has made things even worse.
Filip Kostic is very much for sale and will be sent to the ‘highest bidder’, it doesn’t sound like the Serbian has a great say in the matter. Two clubs are said to be thinking about the signing, and those are named as Southampton and Valencia by German newspaper Aller-Zeitung.
There’s no mention of any offers coming in yet from either the Spanish club or Southampton.
The 25 year old is a flexible left-footed attacker who can play on the left, through the middle or on the right.
He scored five Bundesliga goals last season which may not seem great, but HSV didn’t find the back of the net often and he was the second highest scorer at the club.
Kostic would certainly be fortunate to get a move to either club and Hamburg now have to wait to see who, if either, will place an offer.
