Southampton were one of the club’s to have an official at the match between Benfica and Boavista on Saturday.
Premier League clubs regularly watch Portuguese matches to see if there’s any players ripe for transfer, and Southampton have been one of the most regulars watchers in recent seasons.
The club’s Portuguese interest picked up whilst Ronald Koeman was the manager, with the Dutchman managing at Benfica earlier in his career.
Since Koeman left Southampton the visits have kept up, so it was no surprise they were at Saturday’s match.
Benfica unexpectedly went three goals down to Boavista, but then impressively fought back to level the match 3-3.
Southampton have been linked to Benfica’s Rafa Silva since 2015, when the player was still at his previous club SC Braga.
A Bola, who reported the official being present, suggest a target of Southampton interest could be young forward Goncalo Guedes, and the club have watched multiple Benfica matches this season.
