Southampton’s talks to sign free agent Martín Caceres and linked developments are well followed by the Italian media.
According to the last updates published by Corriere Dello Sport, the Premier League club have offered the defender a six-month contract worth a bit less than €1m.
This contract would include an option to be extended so the player could stay at the club for another season.
Corriere Dello Sport claims that Caceres has already failed to find an agreement with Trabzonspor, AC Milan and Crystal Palace. The Eagles haven’t given the player any feedback since signing Mamadou Sakho on a loan deal from Liverpool.
Caceres and his agent are said to be still in negotiations with Southampton, and the deal could be finalised after the player does his medicals at the club.
Although Tutto Mercato Web recently claimed Sunderland would be in the race too, the club is not mentioned in Corriere Dello Sport’s story.
On Monday morning Gazzetta dello Sport explained AC Milan were only able to offer Caceres €250k over the next five months + some appearance bonuses, which would take his earnings to somewhere around €400k.
That was ‘insufficient’ for the player.
