According to claims in the Polish media, Southampton have had an offer rejected for Lech Poznan defender Jan Bednarek. The 21-year-old has been linked with the Premier League side in recent weeks.

Interia Sport have reported Southampton have tabled a €5m offer with Lech Poznan, but this was instantly turned down by the Polish club. With the uncertainty over the future of Virgil van Dijk the club may need to bring in a central defender or two this summer, and the Poland U21 international is an option.

Despite this being rejected by Lech Poznan the English side could still hold talks with his club and agent, with claims the player could still be signed if the original offer is increased. On that note, that it’s been leaked to the Polish media so quickly would suggest this one isn’t dead.

Bednarek impressed last season for his club, which has brought him to the attention of others, including Southampton. Several clubs are said to be interested in Bednarek, but only Southampton have put in a concrete offer to sign him.
