Southampton goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu has found himself ‘confronted with pressure’ after joining Standard Liege in the January transfer window.

That’s according to Voetbalkrant, who cover the goalkeeper today as he looks to get back on track in Belgium.

He joined Liege on deadline day of the January window, seeking out regular football that wasn’t on offer at Southampton as makes his way back following an Achilles tendon rupture suffered in April 2024, that’s seen him spend 261 days out of action.

His first appearance in the Jupiler Pro League came in the clash with KVC Westerlo but he ‘did not really assure’ as he conceded four goals in a 4-2 defeat.

Voetbalkrant say it was a poor start for the 22-year-old, although he seems to have the necessary character to deal with the pressure that’s now on his shoulders.

They say he faces a difficult task ahead of him with Standard as he’s taking the place of Matthieu Epolo and the clash against Westerlo did not help to ‘remove the doubts’.

While the deal to sign him from Southampton was a good opportunity for Standard, the fact is he will be ‘confronted with pressure’ in Belgium. Whether he can overcome it remains to be seen as the goalkeeper, who earned admiration from Pep Guardiola earlier in his career, looks to prove his potential at last.
