Southampton defender Armel Bella-Kotchap has admitted he needs to find a ‘good level’ again if he is to ever make it to the Germany set up again.

Sky Germany have an interview with the Southampton defender in which he admits he knows he has a battle to get back to the international stage.

Bella-Kotchap has been discussing his future this week, admitting he is aware of interest in him this summer.

A move away from Southampton is almost expected this summer as he enters the final year of his deal and the Saints restructure after a miserable season in the Premier League resulted in a return to the Championship.

The 23-year-old has only managed four appearances in the league and 10% of the available minutes, further adding credence to the belief he’ll be moving on in the coming months.

A move to the Bundesliga has already been suggested, with several sides interested in him, but Bella-Kotchap isn’t concerned with where he plays, just finding a level that can get him back into the picture with the German national team.

He hasn’t featured for them since and knows the competition is now fierce if he wants to return in the near future.

“So, first and foremost, it’s about me consistently performing and being successful; only then can the national team even become a consideration again,” he said.

“I want to and will continue to work on that. I know how tough the competition is in my position and that there are many young, talented players coming up. But first, I have to get back to a consistently good level myself.”
