Reinventing himself as a right-back last season under Claude Puel at Nice, Jérémy Pied had a great season with the Ligue 1 side, helping them qualify for the Europa League.
Now out of contract, the player is receiving a few interesting offers from around Europe, and the French press seem to think he is closest to Saint-Étienne, managed by Christophe Galtier.
However, according to Le10 Sport, his former manager is interested in working with him again, as the French website claim Claude Puel and Southampton have been in contact with the player.
As for AS Saint-Étienne, they are currently in the process of trying to convince him to sign a three-year contract, doing their utmost to snatch him from under Puel’s nose.
The 54-year-old manager, who will probably count on Cédric Soares as his starter for next season, might not be fully convinced by Cuco Martina, and is therefore looking for a potential back-up for the Portugal international.
That’s just our take on it, but Jérémy Pied, who made 35 appearances, assisting three times, for Nice under Puel, might not be interested in sitting on a bench.
That being said, But! seem to think the player would prefer a move to Southampton, stating a move to Saint-Etienne isn’t his priority.
It’s all up in the air at the moment.
