Mohamed Salah is leading the way in Premier League goalscoring and he may also be leading the way in recognition from Gazzetta dello Sport.
Each week the grand old Italian newspaper pick out a selection of players from around Europe’s leagues, ignoring their own Serie A, and Liverpool’s Salah has been repeatedly present in the current campaign.
The Egyptian is once again included today, after his goal against former club Chelsea, and he’s one of three Premier League players to get the nod. Salah is joined by Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech, and Southampton striker Charlie Austin.
Cech had a good match for Arsenal against Burnley but wasn’t required to be especially outstanding, so perhaps his inclusion is a little on the fortunate side. Arsene Wenger’s men got themselves through a tough match with a late strike from Alexis Sanchez taking all three points.
Austin helped Southampton to a 4-1 victory over Everton, scoring two goals and widely considered to be the best player on the pitch. Dusan Tadic and Steven Davis scored Southampton’s other two goals.
Other notable names in the Gazzetta team this week are former Manchester United player Memphis Depay, and Antoine Griezmann, with the latter getting back to his best form for Atletico Madrid.
