Sabah claim Besiktas defender Pepe is a target for Southampton ahead of the next transfer window.

The Saints sold Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool in the last winter transfer window and Pepe could help fill the void left by the Dutchman.

It’s reported that Southampton tried to sign Pepe during the summer transfer window but Besiktas blocked the move. However, the Turkish club may consider cashing in on Pepe this time rather than waiting for his contract to expire at the end of the season.

The Portugal international is currently earning in the region of €4.75m a year with Besiktas and subsequently the Istanbul club could look to get him off their wage bill due to their financial situation.

According to Sabah, Saudi Arabian clubs are also showing an interest in Pepe and they could offer the player one final big pay day.

Pepe was linked with a move to Wolves in the summer but no offer came in from the Premier League club.
