Southampton are interested in signing Nicolae Stanciu, according to claims in Romania this week. DigiSport explained that FC Steaua București’s Stanciu was the subject of comments from the club’s owner this week that revealed interest from a Premier League club.
They have since found out the club in question is Southampton, who would be able to purchase the player for around €6m, according to the club’s owner George Becali.
Stanciu is 23 years of age and a full Romania international. His primary position is as an attacking midfielder, but he can also operate on either wing. Therefore it’s not too hard to see him as a potential Sadio Mane replacement.
However, DigiSport aren’t so sure a Premier League move is right for the player at this stage of his career, wondering if he could cope with the physicality of English top level football.
Stanciu is 5ft 7in, but he wouldn’t be the shortest player in the Premier League. DigiSport say Southampton are keeping an eye on the situation.
