Southampton are ‘interested’ in signing Barcelona’s Junior Firpo, according to Monday’s edition of Mundo Deporitvo.
The 24-year-old played as a backup to Jordi Alba last season, and had to spend more time on the bench as he was restricted to only 18 appearances across all competitions, which included only six starts.
Despite the reduced playing time, the Saints have emerged as an ‘option’ for the left-back in the summer.
AC Milan are also showing interest in the Dominican, but they only want to take him on a loan deal.
The newspaper states Ronald Koeman’s side have parked the option to send the defender out on loan to the San Siro because they want to cash in from his sale this summer.
According to the report, the Catalan club are ‘working’ on sending the former Real Betis man to the Premier League, where Barca are ‘advancing’ on two fronts; and among them are Southampton.
Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side have been ‘interested’ in Junior’s profile ‘for weeks’ and they are in favour of paying a fee to Barcelona, to acquire the fullback’s services.
