Southampton are among the clubs looking at Union Berlin’s Taiwo Awoniyi in the summer.
The striker initially joined the Bundesliga side on a loan deal from Liverpool in 2020 before his stay there was made permanent last year.
This campaign, he has impressed for the German club, netting 17 times and setting up four goals for his teammates in all competitions. His statistics and performances have not gone unnoticed, and he’s caught the attention of the Saints.
According to Fichajes.net, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side are among three Premier League sides ‘fighting’ for the Nigeria international’s signature. The other two clubs are Newcastle United and West Ham United, and these clubs will ‘bid for Awoniyi’.
Southampton are looking for a ‘quality reinforcement in attack’ in order to raise their level in the league and fight for a higher position in the table. Therefore, they have ‘set their sights’ on the former Liverpool man, who would be a ‘very good value for money’ signing.
As per the report, Union Berlin are demanding £21m to allow the 24-year-old to leave them in the next window.
Saints or any other English club may stand a good chance to sign Awoniyi considering that he has never hidden his desire to return to the Premier League.
