Albert Grønbæk arrived at Southampton on loan from Stade Rennais in the winter market.

Southampton have secured a purchase option of €15m to buy the midfielder at the end of this season.

Tuesday’s edition of Ouest-France mentions the 23-year-old when covering the latest on the 13 Stade Rennais players who are currently out on loan.

The Denmark international joined the Ligue 1 club from Bodø/Glimt last summer and had two goals and an assist from 18 games. Despite this, the French media stated his signing was a ‘symbol of transfer failure’ for Stade Rennais.

Since joining the Saints, the forward failed to score or assist from 147 minutes from five matches. The newspaper claims the 23-year-old doesn’t enjoy the confidence of Ivan Jurić at the club.

Southampton are currently bottom of the table and are 17 points behind Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are in 17th spot. The Saints are very likely to be relegated from the Premier League.

Stade Rennais’ local newspaper states Southampton won’t be using their option for Grønbæk. They are set to send him back to the French club after this season.
