Spanish newspaper Marca believe Southampton’s scouts have found a player in Spain’s Segunda Division who has impressed so much after a few scouting trips were made that the club are now ‘determined’ to sign him.
Alfonso Pedraza is a 20 year old winger owned by Villarreal. This season he’s been sent out on loan to Lugo to get some experience, and has been winning new fans.
Southampton are said to have made several trips to watch the player, and been left ‘delighted’ with what they’ve seen.
The only doubt with Southampton’s interest is when they’ll act upon it. Marca say it’s unclear whether the Premier League club will make a move now or wait until the summer window, giving Pedraza more time on loan at Lugo.
Sporting Gijon are also interested, but they wouldn’t be able to compete with what Southampton can offer. Pedraza has 6 goals and 7 assists so far this season, which is no doubt helping the interest grow.
