Once looking like the answer to Southampton’s problems down the right hand side of the defence, Yan Valery has since fallen down the pecking order under Ralph Hasenhüttl.
So much so that the 20-year-old has yet to make an appearance for the Saints in any top-tier competition, only playing six times for the U23s in the Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy.
This has led to someone behind the scenes offering him around to try and get him some game time, as Sky Germany are reporting Schalke 04 have been presented with the opportunity to sign Valery.
Relayed by Fussball Transfers, the report explain Southampton ‘should be ready to part ways with the player this winter, possibly on loan first’, but it’s not known if the Bundesliga side, who borrowed Jonjoe Kenny from Everton last year, are interested.
What the website do know, however, is that Bayer Leverkusen’s Mitchell Weiser is a ‘serious consideration’ for the right-back role in Gelsenkirchen, suggesting the Saints man might not be their top priority right now.
We’ll have to wait and see if more comes of this, but it appears Valery could really be on his way out from St Mary’s in the coming weeks.
