Southampton continue to be one of the Premier League clubs who scout Portuguese football the most.

The club really boosted their talent watching in the country under previous manager Ronald Koeman and since the Dutchman left they’ve shown no signs of slowing down or stopping.

Outside of the biggest clubs, Southampton are probably the Premier League side which watches most Portuguese matches, and that shows a clear intention to buy from the country, otherwise there would be little point in all the effort.

Having already watched several clubs this month already, Southampton had an official at Saturday’s match between Portimonense and Sporting. The Lisbon giants won 2-1, with both goals coming from Bruno Fernandes.

With a buyout clause of €100m and interest from the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool, he may well be out of Southampton’s range.

Realistic targets for the Saints will completely depend on what division they’re playing in next season, with a Championship status maybe suggesting targets from Portimonense are more likely than Sporting.
