During the January transfer window, it was Leicester City trying to sign Ibrahima Diallo from Brest.
The Foxes were looking for a defensive midfielder, and had turned their attention to the Frenchman, who’d impressed greatly in his first season with the Ligue 1 club.
Bids were made, then turned down, with Leicester moving on, only to be replaced by Southampton late on in this transfer window.
First looking at Ibrahim Sangaré from Toulouse, the Saints were overtaken by PSV Eindhoven in Holland, and seemingly then turned their attention to Diallo.
L’Equipe on Friday are reporting Brest and the Premier League club have ‘gotten closer over the past few hours’.
According to the French newspaper, Diallo sees a move to Southampton with a ‘good eye’, and the French side’s director of sport admitted in private went ‘beyond €14m (bonuses excluded)’.
Asking if that was enough to satisfy Brest, L’Equipe state ‘not immediately’, but both sides are ‘clearly getting closer’ to agreeing a deal.
