Despite still battling against a possible relegation to the Championship, Southampton, as they have always done, are taking the future of their club into consideration by looking at young talent abroad.

Always willing to give youth a chance, the Saints continued that tradition under Ralph Hasenhüttl, who pushed Cédric Soares to one side and gave an opportunity to Yan Valery.

The right-back grabbed it with both hands and is now a regular in the Southampton first-team.

Foot Mercato in France point out this success might have given the Austrian manager ideas going forward, as the Saints are now keeping an eye on Timothé Nkada.

The 19-year-old striker, currently playing for Rennes’ reserves, has a contract expiring at the end of June, and the Premier League side have been ‘alerted’ to that fact, swiftly positioning themselves to pounce when the opportunity presents itself.

Nowhere in Foot Mercato’s article does it state that talks have started between the youngster and Saints, but that doesn’t mean they won’t eventually.

As the French website point out, there’s every chance Southampton will set things in motion in the near future.

Nkada has scored 11 goals in 16 appearances for Rennes’ B team this season.
