On Monday, Catalan newspaper Sport had a big story saying Liverpool were afraid that their star Philippe Coutinho would be wanting a move to Barcelona.
The article said that despite the talks for a new contract, the Reds would fear that the player’s dream to play for Barça would speak louder and spoil the deal.
So what did Coutinho do the day next? He went to Manchester, where Barcelona are staying for the Champions League game against City.
The midfielder met some players, such as his former Liverpool teammate Luis Suarez and his compatriot and long-time friend Neymar.
So Sport reported it with a headline saying “Coutinho’s winking to Barcelona’s player”, as if his visit suggested a future move to the Catalan club.
The newspaper say Coutinho is waiting for a call from Barcelona and stated: ‘For now, his presence in the team hotel and can be considered a ‘wink’.’
Sport have obviously gone over the top on this one, as Coutinho is only visiting some of his old teammates. His friends are in a near city, there’s a big game going on, he’s not in training, so why not?
On the other hand, the Brazilian also wanted to show he was with the Barcelona squad, since he posted one of the pictures on his Instagram account.
Coutinho, who recently signed with a new agent, is probably liking the whole thing. But this is far from being a sign that a deal with Barcelona could be on.
