For the entire season, we’ve been covering claims from Chile about Claudio Bravo’s situation with the national team.
There had been a big doubt if the Manchester City goalkeeper would be called up for the Copa America, a trophy which he’s lifted for the past two editions.
And now that Bravo has been officially left out of the squad which will be travelling to Brazil, newspaper El Mercurio comes up with two reasons why he hasn’t been called up.
The first one is his Achilles injury. Bravo has missed the entire season trying to recover, and the newspaper says that Manchester City still haven’t given him authorisation to play again.
With the tournament starting next month, there would be little time to finish his recovery.
The second reason is the well known issue with his teammates. First, a group of players requested that Bravo would lose the captaincy, making things quite tense for the past year.
Then El Mercurio says that the player hasn’t responded to the criticism that some teammates made on a Whatsapp group. His attitude made some of them leave this group after many years in it.
So at the age of 36, it doesn’t look very likely that Bravo will have another chance to play for Chile again. Perhaps a move out of Manchester City would help him with that, since it’s been a while since he’s had regular playing time to show manager Reinaldo Rueda he deserves a spot.
