West Ham United have shown their interest in Maxi Gomez of Celta Vigo, Sport Witness has been informed.
Since moving to Europe in 2017, the Uruguay international impressed in his debut season, scoring 17 goals and registering four assists in the La Liga.
This term, the striker has continued his fine form, scoring nine goals and setting up five more goals for his teammates in 17 league appearances.
The Hammers were linked with a move for the South American before the start of the season, but there wasn’t any serious interest in him.
However, that has changed as they are looking to bring in a new player in the winter market due to uncertainty among a few of their attackers, particularly with Marko Arnautovic reportedly drawing strong interest from China.
Sport Witness has been informed that Gomez could continue with the Spanish outfit beyond the winter transfer window, but interest from West Ham is genuine and not simply an invention of the rumour mill.
Gomez has a release clause of €50m in his contract and Celta Vigo would be looking towards that figure for a sale.
